Owning Up to It

Owning Up to It

Written by Katrina Garofalo

We all tell little white lies every now and again. Harmless and insignificant, we probably don’t even notice when we let one slip most times. The other times, we aren’t so innocent.

Lately, everyone and their little sister (shoutout to Kendall Jenner and her did she/didn’t she lip plump) has been guilty of fibbing in the name of “natural beauty”. A nip here, a tuck there, a magic lotion, potion, trick or concoction slides under the radar when someone poses the age old question of “Have you been doing something different?

Instead of offering up the truth on the matter, which is more often than not “Why, yes I have, thanks for noticing,” we lean toward denying that anything at all has changed in our routine. Usually when we do change something, at our own hands or at the hands of professional, it’s because we want a noticeable change. So why do we pretend to be none the wiser should someone else notice as well?

Perhaps it’s out of fear for being shamed or labeled as vain, or maybe it’s because you simply want to keep the secret. And for some changes, I’m sure there are good reasons to back up not wanting to admit to whatever it is that you’ve recently improved on. That being said, if it’s obvious…it’s obvious. When you try to pass it off as nothing, you’re going to get an eye roll and less than genuine response.

I’m of the mind that if you’re going to get something done, you might as well be honest about it. By acting as though you’ve happened to wake up totally refreshed and renewed one morning is a little insulting. We’re in a time where there are so many effective treatments and procedures that sharing what’s been tested and proven effective is appreciated. There is no shame in taking care of yourself and presenting yourself in the manner you want to be presented, so why hide it?

Sharing is caring.
