Sue Williamson

Bio

If you loved Margaret Williamson Bechtold‘s story, we’d like to introduce you to her equally fashionable and accomplished sister: Sue Williamson. She’s a fashion and beauty journalist, ex-digital editor and Louis Vuitton Speedy personalizer (if you don’t know what we mean: look it up). She is no stranger to the world of magazines, having written for both Teen Vogue and W Magazine in the past. Most recently, Sue can be found at new beauty mainstay, Milk Makeup, working exclusively on the brand’s voice. Her Instagram is a colourful feast for the eyes, and her personal style is both refreshing and individual. Sue Williamson is one to watch – for both her obvious knack for style, and effortless execution of it in her own life.

Q&A

How do you start your day off?

Super late, always. After I walk my dog, I throw Milk Makeup Sunshine Skin Tint and Chantecaille mascara in my bag and do my makeup on the train. by the time I get to my transfer at the L, I’m usually semi-awake and ready to tear into my book.

What’s going on in the background when you are getting ready?

Whatever record is still on my player from the night before. Today, it was The Best of Cowsills.

You never leave home without…

A good book (right now, it’s The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami), headphones, a scarf or earrings fro when I inevitably decide I want to change my outfit halfway through the day, and Stila liquid eyeliner, in case my cat-eyes come off.

What are your closet essentials?

A vintage Jeff Banks micro-micro-micro-mini dress (ok, it’s a shirt) from Screaming Mimi’s, black cropped jeans from The Row I bought as a souvenir from my first trip to L.A., a really special Undercover x SUE jacket my friend Sana sent me from Tokyo, and my Kara beach towel from my weekly trek to Rockaway Beach. Everything in my closet is really sentimental.

What is your biggest fashion regret?

Probably everything I wore as an intern at NYLON…

You always splurge on, and you always save on…

I shop a lot on re-commerce sites like TheRealReal and Tradesy, so I like to think I combine splurging and saving there. Wait, that doesn’t make any sense…

What is one piece of clothing you wish you could steal from your 16 year old self?

My plaid school uniform skirt.

The Row 'ATHBY' TROUSERS
Hermes PLAZA DE TOROS SILK SCARF
CHANTECAILLE Faux Cils Mascara

What inspires your style most?

A combination of a lot of things, usually including my mood, characters in whatever book I’m reading or movie I’ve recently seen, my schedule for the day, and how late I am getting out the door.

Your #1 style tip is…

Don’t take it too seriously.
