So, we don’t know if you know (but you totally know, c’mon) of this girl named Sky Ferreira. She’s kind of a singer/songwriter, model and sometimes actor, and she is kind of on tour with Miley Cyrus. Which means, she’s kind of a pretty big deal. Since today is Sky’s birthday, we thought we would take the opportunity to introduce those of you that may not be familiar with her.
At 22, Sky is younger than most obvious fashion and style inspiration sources, but that does not discredit her originality. You don’t make critically acclaimed electro-pop indie music if you’re cut from a cookie mould, which also equates to a no-brainer sense of style. Especially for those who love a good leather ensemble or five.
With pouty lips and sultry eyes, Sky’s beauty resembles the allure of old Hollywood starlets, though her personal style couldn’t be more opposite. The grunge goddess is no stranger to oversize tees, acid wash, leather jackets, and combat boots, but she also cleans up really well. Give her a red carpet event or a fashion week and she’ll wow you. She pulls off tough-girl edginess with a girly twist, while simultaneously remaining This girl has also got major fashion cred already under her belt.
Sky has walked in a Marc Jacobs runway show, has done collaborations with Forever 21 and Maison Kitsuné, and is currently the face of haircare powerhouse, Redken. She appeared in Saint Laurent, Calvin Klein, and Benetton ads, and has been featured on the covers and in the pages of all the best magazines including iD and Interview. Though she often brushed off the fashion side of her career as mainly monetary driven, there’s no denying she has a look people like to see. The fact that she doesn’t necessarily want the fashion attention she receives only entices everyone in the industry to fall for her even harder. You want what you can’t have, after all.
Being so young and having already reached the cool-girl status that Sky Ferreira has, we hope that she continues to grow and become more involved in the fashion community. Her style is a rebel girl’s dream, which is usually difficult to find. Anything Sky puts on looks effortless, which in a time where everything seems to be so calculated, is refreshing to see from a fresh face. Her style inspires a much needed sense of self that everyone should employ more often. At the very least, we hope Sky can be a further muse for designers and the like as time goes on. The results would be to die for.
Happy Birthday, Sky Ferreira! From us, to you and your natural rebellion.
