Most of our time in November through to March is spent under a copious amount of layers. As a result, we not only get used to all the extra weight, we become so used to being covered up and burying our actual outfit that we start to ignore what our outfit is.
Two weeks in, and we’ve all become attached that one pair of pants that fits us just right, a t-shirt that is soft and cozy, and a sweater which keeps us warmer than the rest. From there on out, that outfit is on repeat. All day. Every day. Until we have to go somewhere important.
This is called a Cold Weather Outfit Rut.
It’s almost as if our style conscience goes into hibernation. We don’t even care if we wear the same thing everyday as long as we are warm and can easily transition into pyjamas once we get home.
As comfortable as it may be, being stuck in a rut also leads to a lot of frustration. You have to give yourself options! You cannot expect to be staring at the same things since last winter and still get excited about the possibilities. Therefore, winter shopping is a must. For your well being and ours, it is a definite must.
You don’t need to go crazy. This isn’t an excuse to drain you bank account. What you need to do is pick and choose certain things to update. We’ve chosen some examples for you to shop below.
Remember, just because no one sees the outfit under the coat, doesn’t mean it’s not there.
