I am not an early morning person.
Not in the typical sense of being moody and needing a dose of caffeine, though.
Before 7:30 in the morning, my brain is flat out confused. I move in slow motion, and while I have a general sense of what’s happening around me, nothing is clear. Especially clothing.
Getting dressed in the early morning is an art- a well-refined system- for people like me. That is, people who’s eyes can’t take a bright light ten minutes after waking up, who are sometimes unorganized, and who are always a little picky with what they wear.
So what is one to do when life begs to begin before a “reasonable” hour?
1. Have a go-to outfit
I feel like everyone has at least one ensemble that is a foolproof, tried and true go-to that never lets them down. Make that outfit your fall back. Whether it be your favourite jeans and shirt combo, or a dress, always have it mind.
2. Keep it somewhere handy
If there is anything I’ve learned through my morning brain dressing adventures, it’s that grabbing whatever I see is my first instinct. To avoid looking like you don’t know how to function with an early call time, put your go-to’s components wherever they can be reached the easiest. Arranging your clothes in a way that makes go-to pieces the most accessible helps to make the process of morning dressing so much simpler.
3. Do not be impulsive
Fashion adventurism is always encouraged…outside of morning brain. Stick to your plan, trust your plan, know your plan. The minute you veer off track is the minute you venture into dangerous territory where colours clash, and belts are forgotten. Save the risk taking for a day when you are fully awake.
