After it’s last ‘big’ resurgence in 2007, I have been waiting for this trend to come back. Finally, when I spotted many a pair of updated gladiator sandals coming down Valentino’s SS 2015 runway, my heart sighed, and I started my hunt for the perfect pair.

Thankfully,  I was lucky in the department, and managed to pick up a pair at Zara in late February – meaning I had an agonizing 2-3 months of staring at them in their box, waiting to be worn!

Since pulling the mid-calf sandals out of their box, I feel as though my wardrobe has been given an instant update. Boring cashmere sweater and denim cutoffs? Throw on the “glads” and instant chic. Breezy summer dress? Add glads and some sunnies, and your look is complete. Culottes, cut-offs, dresses and denim, the shoes update and elevate almost every look.

You can buy them tall, you can buy them short, with a platform, or without, suede or leather – really this season, designers really have brought out a pair to suit anyone.

Let your inner Carly Simon/Jane Birkin (or Russell Crowe, should you desire an edgier look) run wild this summer, and find yourself your perfect pair of gladiator sandals.
