The term “essentials” has varying degrees of intensity depending on who you ask. While one person may consider beauty essentials to be nothing more than chapstick and a hairbrush, someone else will give you a three page list running from brow gel to contour sticks.
As we’ve previously mentioned, cutting down on the amount of products can greatly help you in the summer months. All you really need are the essentials. Essentials like a waterproof mascara, SPF lip products, and mattifying skincare. The unsung heroes of the warmer weather, and although it seems like a no-brainer to have them on hand, they are usually forgotten until there’s an unpredicted beauty emergency.
In order to survive a summer in the city, you need a few go-to’s that will keep you from becoming a hot mess.
We’ll start with the waterproof mascara. It doesn’t matter if you own a pool or are five hours from the nearest body of water, you need at least one waterproof mascara. Why? Because rainy summer days will make your regular mascara run, and on hot summer days there’s a good chance it’ll melt right off your lashes. Waterproof mascara is simply the smart road to take.
Another overlooked summer beauty essential is a lip product with SPF. If you haven’t got the message yet, SPF is kind of important. Not only will it save your skin from getting a little too toasty, but it will spare your lips too. And no one wants chapped, dry, flakey, and sometimes painful lips. How are your going to apply that matte lipstick onto that? SPF lip balm to the rescue! Keep one on you at all times, and your lips will thank you for years to come.
Oily skin? Blotting sheets. You know you’ve walked past them while waiting in line at Sephora, but we’re here to convince you to pick them up. They usually cost around $12 and will become your new go to in place of powder. If blotting sheets aren’t an essential already, they’ll certainly become one. Another saving grace for shiny skin is makeup setting spray. It may not be the most essential but it is handy for those who need it.
Last, but most definitely not least by any means, is dry shampoo. We’ve tackled the frizzy hair issues, so now we focus on droopy hair. Humidity can also drag your do’ down, making it slick in all the wrong ways.Dry shampoo helps to combat flat hair and lets you push a couple more days between washing.
