As if beauty isn’t already complicated enough, it seems women (including myself some days) are still confused about how much product, whether it be eye cream or mousse, they actually need. Similar to binge eating, we’ve become so result-oriented (ie. perfectly conditioned hair), that we often pay little attention to portion control. For the record, over-conditioned hair does exist, and is better off rewashed every time.
As women, we invest so much of our time and money into the wonderful world of beauty, which makes understanding beauty serving sizes important. For instance, when you spend $150 on day cream, not only do you want it to work wonders, but also, last forever and a day.
To help put things in perspective, we’ve come up with a unique beauty serving size guide using food (clever, we know). From prunes to pine nuts, you’ll never overuse your beauty products again.
1. Hair mousse = one crabapple
2. Shampoo = one blackberry for short hair, one whole strawberry for long hair
3. Facial moisturizer = 1 prune (add another prune serving for your neck)
4. Serum and/or retinol = 1 green pea
5. SPF = 1 avocado pit per body part
