How do we sum up Marina Khorosh? Basically, we’d go with the epitome of European-cool-meets-New York City-girl-about-town. We first discovered her blog, Dbag Dating, and from there, discovered her Instagram and crazy cool aesthetic. When not writing for the likes of Vogue, Dbag Dating, and Into The Gloss, Marina is also working on a new Instagram venture with photographer Caroline Owens, TIMM (Things In My Mouth), which aims to bring awareness to important issues and current events. We’re obsessed.
Q&A
How do you start your day off?
With the exception of the rare hungover morning, which is a coffee-candy-Netflix situation, I’m pretty regimented. 6 AM wakeup, vitamins, ten minutes of ab work, and all the other boring stuff one becomes passionate about past the age of thirty. Sometimes I journal or read the news, other times I just group chat my way through breakfast and move on to work. Many of my copywriting clients are in Europe, so the day must start early.
What’s going on in the background when you are getting ready?
A podcast. I’m addicted to them.
You never leave home without…
My laptop, unless it’s a social thing. (Even then, I occasionally have separation anxiety.)
What are your closet essentials?
My entire existence hinges on jeans, button-downs and cashmere sweaters. Chelsea boots and a bomber, and I’m set.
What is your biggest fashion regret?
Who has time for fashion regrets – there are plenty of real-life regrets to dwell on! I guess I wish would have come into my own a bit faster and hadn’t wasted my parents’ money building a silk ruffle top collection (hello, 2007!)
You always splurge on, and you always save on…
Splurge on jackets, shoes, bags, statement jewelry. I can also do serious damage at a sample sale. Save by resisting trends with the defiance some girls reserve for carbs.
What is one piece of clothing you wish you could steal from your 16 year old self?
I had these neon green Kenzo shorts. They were tiny and trashy and I would love to give them another whirl.
What inspires your style most?
When I lived in Paris, my friends there really inspired me. Many of them work for fashion houses and have incredible aesthetics. Now I just rely on Instagram and the city of New York to supply me with ideas.
Your #1 style tip is…
This is pretty cliché, but I would probably advise to find your own look and build on it. Make your closet its own little ecosystem where everything is symbiotic.
