The Best of 2020 Beauty

The Best of 2020 Beauty

Written by The Strategy

To say 2020 was hard, would be the biggest understatement. It was tough and we are more than happy to say goodbye to it, and ring in a new year that will hopefully be a little better.

As the year saw us in lockdown, with countless hours on our hands and little to do, and wearing masks when we left the house, we spent a lot of time indulging in self-care and upping our beauty games. While we tried many products on our path to self-care, some stood out from the rest and really saved our skin in 2020.

SKINCARE

Bobbi Brown Soothing Face Cleanser Oil  Wearing a mask for long hours, and constant stress had our skin begging for some TLC. This cleansing oil from Bobbi Brown got our skincare routine off on the right note. It’s infused with a blend of botanical oils, such as kukui nut, white water lily, and goji berry extracts, and gently dissolves impurities.

Tata Harper Resurfacing BHA Glow Mask – This mask has been a favourite of ours and a top shelf staple for years. In the past we’ve used it only when we travel or want to give our skin some extra love. Since quarantine, we’ve been using it once a week. The mask aims to get rid of dullness and refines the look of pores. You’re left with healthy, radiant skin that glows. Seriously. We also love that this product is made up of a 100% natural formula.

Eve Lom Radiance Face Oil – Especially in the colder months when our skin has needed extra moisture, this product is a hero. The hydrating oil is enriched with antioxidants, including a stable form of vitamin C, and helps to bring out a smooth, radiant complexion, while diminishing dryness. It also helps fight free radicals, calm skin and prevents and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

MOISTURIZERS

GOOPGENES All-In-One Nourishing Face Cream  We’ve talked about this product before, and we still can’t stop talking about. This super cream leaves skin looking and feeling soft, smooth, firm, and moisturized. We also love that this product gets Sephora’s stamp of ‘Clean Beauty.’

Brazilian Bum Bum Cream – Upon opening a jar of Bum Bum Cream, you’ll realize why it’s a favourite for 2020. The warm and spicy scent immediately transports us to the white sandy beaches of our dreams. The body cream melts into your skin and adds a healthy dose of hydration, all the while, tightening and smoothing your skin.

Fenty Skin Hydra Vizor Invisible Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 – Has Rihanna ever created a products that disappointed? We don’t think so, and the moisturizer is yet another Fenty winner in our eyes. The two-in-one sunscreen moisturizer is lightweight, oil-free and most importantly, invisible. It brightens skin, reduces the look of dark spots and pores, evens skin tone and diminishes excess shine.

HAIRCARE

Christophe Robin Regenerating Hair Serum  A couple pumps of this hair serum onto our wet strands protects and nourishes our hair, while reducing frizz and increasing shine. As fans of heat styling, this product saved our hair from the heat, and leaves our hair feeling much healthier than before.

Miss Jessie’s Multicultural Curls – This product has been around for a while, but with not many places to venture in 2020, we spent a lot of 2020 embracing our natural hair textures. This hair lotion, designed for women of all ethnicities, helps to enhance our curls, fights frizz and adds shine, all with a very soft hold. In short, it made our curly, hair far more manageable. It’s paraben and cruelty-free, and works like a charm.

Nexxus Humectress Moisture Masque Friends and family are probably so sick of hearing about us talk about this product, but this masque has truly been our favourite product of 2020. Game-changing, revolutionary, and an absolute must have in our showers. This masque changed our hair texture from course to smooth, reduced the appearance of split ends, and added a huge dose of moisture to our dry strands.

SPECIAL MENTIONS

OUAI Melrose Place Eau De Parfum  Stuck at home, and missing walks down Melrose, this perfume is a walk down memory lane. The light floral scent with notes of champagne, bergamot, and rose takes us to our happy place, and the mini bottle makes it easy to slip into any bag.

Starface Hydro-Stars – The fight against ‘mask-ne’ has been real, and a fight we’ve lost many a times. Luckily, Starface’s Hydro-Stars have us covered – literally. The hydrocolloid pimple patches ‘disguise’ blemishes during our Zoom calls, but also, prevents us from picking while absorbing fluid.
