Alexis Honce

Bio

You know her. You love her. You wish you were styled by her. Her work covers everything from commercial advertisements to magazine editorials to Marilyn Denis and more. Alexis Honce is a stand-out in the Canadian fashion scene, and has taken her show on the road through her work with top notch clientele like the Adidas/Stella McCartney lovechild that we all know and love. In a time where fashion in Canada seems to have taken a backseat in many ways, Alexis is at the forefront of bringing style back into the average Canadian’s life in a manner that is both approachable and well-advised. Alexis wears many hats, literally and figuratively with her newest venture of beautifully curated Alex + Amber Hats.

Q&A

How do you start your day off?

Every morning, I get out of bed and head straight to my favourite corner of the kitchen where the coffee machine is! I love a good cup of coffee and can’t start my day without it. Then, I give my puppy a little snuggle and head straight to my computer. No one would believe the amount of e-mails stylists can get in a  deal. From clothing requisitions, following-up on returns, booking jobs, and pre-production questions – it can get crazy…so every morning, I spend about 1 to 2 hours just catching up on e-mails.

What’s going on in the background when you are getting ready?

I’m always short on time, so if I have a moment, I put on old 70s rock while I get ready and head out the door.

You never leave home without…

I never leave home without lipstick. My mom always wore lipstick, so it has been passed down to me. She won’t even Skype me without it. I’m not at that level yet, but it’s getting close. I also make a to-do list for the day, which I take with me in the car.

What are your closet essentials?

Closet essentials are definitely statement tops, pants in interesting cuts (wide leg, flare, etc.), killer shoes and big bold coats.

What is your biggest fashion regret?

My biggest fashion regret was missing out on purchasing a pair of flare knit Missoni pants from Intermix. They were on sale and they only had 2 left. I came back the next day and they were sold out. That was about 4 years ago and I’m still thinking about them. Every Missoni collection I come across in stores, I dive right in and look for a similar pant, but to no avail!

You always splurge on, and you always save on…

That’s easy! I splurge on coats, shoes and jewelry…I don’t know if I necessarily try and save on items…but I do take advantage of industry perks. My sales are always big on my list to hit for shopping, and I save my favourite pieces that I find throughout the year for sales. I always want to get value for my purchase.

What is one piece of clothing you wish you could steal from your 16 year old self?

I was such a little punk back in the day, so I might try and steal all my graphic t-shirts. Those would be so cool right now.

Your #1 style tip is…

My style tip that I always tell people is to try something new! you would be surprised how many people are stuck in their ways with what they buy and don’t realize it. People need to grab their girlfriends and hit the shops just for fun. They will find so many new styles, colours, and patters that they will love to wear.
