Oren and Yarden Katz are two sisters from Los Angeles who happen to design some refreshingly modern jewelry to suit all your needs. The pair combine classic clean lines with artistic takes on shape and style to create truly beautiful accessories. After a stint in New York City, Oren and Yarden returned to their native California to launch Carbon & Hyde. Coming from a long line of jewelry designing in their family, the Katz sisters know what they’re doing and boast an impressive list of clients to prove it. Who is your all-time style icon?

Kate Moss.

What inspires and influences your style?

Living in California, you can’t help but be inspired by Cali casual wear. We love a refined minimalistic look, paired with a dose of vintage or leather. In LA it’s all about being comfortable. We love denim and diamonds, but of course never forget about a good leather accessory. Our jewelry is what inspires us the most. It adds a perfect touch to every outfit. If we feel like wearing a big Lace Ring, we always end up with a more feminine outfit than we do wearing an ear cuff and a 3-finger diamond bar ring.

What is your favourite piece right now and why?

YK: I’ve been really vibing with the High Five Necklace and Anarchy Necklace. I love the combination of the short almost choker-like length of the High Five Necklace paired with the 18” chain on the onyx pendant. I love mixing and matching things that don’t typically go together – it surprises people. OK: I’ve been addicted to wearing 2 Katie Rings stacked on top of each other and 2 drake ear cuffs stacked on my ear. Yarden always says I’m a perfectionist – I don’t like pairing too many different styles together. I stick to one thing and I stack it up to make a statement. I think this looks the cleanest.

How would you describe your personal style?

Typically, you’ll see us in boyfriend jeans, a white tee or button down, a biker leather jacket, black leather sandals, and lots of jewelry. ALC is one of our favorites – their leather pants and mini skirts kill it. We have a pretty neutral color palate, but we’re also down with Marant prints. She always brings that vintage pattern we’re looking for. Oren tends to be a bit more sophisticated – she loves a good menswear-inspired ensemble like trousers and a boxy tee because it’s minimalistic enough to make our jewelry stand out. Yarden is a bit edgier with a flair – don’t be surprised if you see her sporting ten of our rings stacked all at once, Nike Disco Dunks, or a top like Reformation’s “F*ck your bad vibes” blouse.

You always splurge on and you always save on…

Always splurge on a good leather handbag – we love Celine and Givenchy anything. We always save on buying jewelry. We wear our own!

Who are your style icons?

Alexa Chung has sick style and always does a good vintage or denim hot pants look, Olivia Palermo is always styled to a T, Alexander Wang always keeps the Black & White on tap, and Rick Owens is obviously a creative genius. We love Rick and his wife’s motto – they don’t buy things, they make things. Everything around them is designed by them.

What is the wardrobe item you can’t live without?

YK: I have this Helmut Lang football shaped shoulder bag that I can’t get enough of. I’ve had it for a year or two and still wear it like I bought it yesterday. I lost it once, and re-bought it in several colors as back up because I’m so obsessed with it. I’m pretty sure I’ll still be wearing that bag when I’m 100 years old. OK: My leather backpack. It keeps my most coveted items safe everyday – my mac book, pieces from our collection, my Alexander Wang notebook with all my designs, and my chap stick. But please don’t tell anyone my secret. Ha!

Your fashion motto is…

Well, Carbon & Hyde is our moniker of course. Carbon represents diamonds and Hyde is a spin off of leather. Never leave the house without a piece of both.

Your #1 style tip is…

Own it! However you chose to style yourself – you have to wear it with confidence.
