OccupationFashion Journalist
Monica Ainley is a Canadian force to be reckoned with, as a fashion journalist, editor and creative consultant, among other things. Working as a successful writer and writing for a myriad of publications, including Style.com and T Magazine, she is well versed in the ways of “good style.” Monica, along with friend Camille Charriere, has written, produced, and is happy to present a fashion based podcast, aptly named Fashion: No Filter. In tune with its title, the duo dive into an unfiltered, unbiased, behind-the-scenes look at the fashion industry. We’ve already had a listen, and we can say we’re officially obsessed.
Q&A
How do you start your day off?
Coffee.
What’s going on in the background when you are getting ready?
The Radio. I currently am obsessed with Alec Baldwin’s podcast “Here’s The Thing”.
You never leave home without…
My mini Mason Pearson hairbrush, and my big, nerdy Tom Ford tortoise shell eye glasses.
What are your closet essentials?
A Joseph coat, Levis jeans, Converse, white Acne t-shirts, and a multitude of excellent knits varying in weight to suit every season.
What is your biggest fashion regret?
Bangs!
You always splurge on, and you always save on…
Splurge: Coats. Save: Underpants. I like the white cotton variety from Marks & Spencer.
What is one piece of clothing you wish you could steal from your 16 year old self?
I must have been 16 when I rejected my once-beloved velour Juicy Couture tracksuit. Now I kind of want it back.
Your fashion motto is…
“The best things in life are free. The second best are very expensive”. – Coco Chanel
Your #1 style tip is…
Less is more.
