Poppy Jamie

Bio

Entrepreneur Poppy Jamie almost needs no introduction. She’s founder to not one, but two successful companies, BFF to Suki Waterhouse, friend to the likes of Cara Delevigne, and a former TV presenter. You’re bound to have seen her anywhere from Vogue to Youtube (Sorry Pop, but your Jude Law interview is still one of our favourites!). She’s Founder of the mindfulness app, Happy Not Perfect, that has gotten more than one TS team member through the day, and Co-Founder of Pop & Suki with Suki Waterhouse, as the name suggests. She’s on a roll and we’re excited about everything she does.

Q&A

How do you start your day off?

I start my day off always by a walk. I’m obsessed with walking. I do a walking meditation, and that really is just walking up, putting on my trainers, and for 15 or 20 minutes, I just acknowledge what is around me. I focus on my breathing. Just doing that little bit of exercise every morning changes my day, because it allows me to shake off sleep. It allows me a moment to process and walk off the night and clear my head. I usually will go for a walk that will allow me to get a coffee en route. Then I try, wherever I am, to go to an exercise class every morning. I usually do a pilates or yoga. For me to do my exercise in the morning is really important.

What’s going on in the background when you are getting ready?

Not much. I try to keep it as peaceful as possible. If I really need a little bit of *umph*, I put on energizing music. But, usually nothing. I try to start my days quite peaceful. Or, I’ll check in with one old friend.

You never leave home without…

My mobile, sadly. Keys, money, because I love to pop-in for a coffee or tea on my walks. I love coffee and tea shops. In my handbag, I will never not have mascara, because I have blonde eyelashes and concealer.

What are your closet essentials?

Trainers, because I do my walking in them. I love a good pair of high waisted jeans because I wear those a lot. I really love floaty dresses because I find I can wear them with flat boots and do a day to night with them. I love an oversized blazer, because I can put them on top of anything to jazz something up. And my Pop & Suki handbags, obv.

What is your biggest fashion regret?

Oh my God! Literally just Google me. There are so many horrific fashion mistakes. Honestly, I just wish that I never left the house before last year. I once wore this black and white stripe-y dress that seems to be all over Google. I wore an orange dress once that was absolutely horrific. I’ve just had so many fashion disasters, because at the time, I thought it was great and then even a week later, I was like, ” What were you wearing?!” And then a year later, I was like “Noooo!”

You always splurge on, and you always save on…

I splurge on winter jackets, because you wear them so much. I’m very practical in the way I spend. If I’m going to splurge, I want to splurge on something I know I’m going to wear. What I try to save on is white t-shirts. I’ll go to H&M and get my basics. I get my basics for as cheap as possible. And tights! I will literally got to Primark to buy tights.

What is one piece of clothing you wish you could steal from your 16 year old self?

I don’t think I was very cool when I was sixteen. I don’t think I’d be stealing very much from her. I used to have these really cool cords. I haven’t worn cords for so long and they were such cool cords. I feel like cord is coming back.

What inspires your style most?

Everything in my life really. I was brought up in a really girly way. I’ve always really enjoyed wearing dresses. I love this idea that you can balance femininity with a hard edge, like a boxy blazer and  a feminine dress. I love the mix-up of feminine and masculine energies.
