OccupationFounder and Lingerie Designer of TyLynn Nguyen
If you were to look up the word “elegance” in the dictionary, we’re 99% sure a picture of TyLynn Nguyen would be beside the definition. When we first stumbled up on the LA-based model-turned-lingerie designer on Instagram, we knew we had to know more about her style story. We were lucky enough to be invited to the mother of three’s minimalist Calabasas home to talk all about what inspires her style. A style that’s well documented on street style blogs. Thankfully, she also recently launched her own YouTube channel that we cannot get enough of.
Q&A
How do you start your day off?
I start my day usually with kids running into my bedroom screaming – but in a great way! And a cup of coffee. I wash my face, brush my teeth and then try and get the kids to copy me.
What’s going on in the background when you are getting ready?
Screaming. Real mom things.
You never leave home without…
My Celine wallet – my ‘Old’ Celine wallet.
What are your closet essentials?
Great denim. Easy button-up tops and a good flat shoe – because I’m six feet tall. I do love heels, but a good flat shoe is necessary.
What is your biggest fashion regret?
I don’t really have one. I needed to go through those phases that I went through to get to where I am today.
You always splurge on, and you always save on…
I always splurge on my husband for his gifts, and I always save on…I’m so cheap, so I save on everything. And I’m not even cheap in a bad way – I just think you should be mindful of where you spend your money. Looking at what you can truly afford and not looking at what everyone else is doing. Because, as hard as it is, you have to think about yourself and not everyone else, when it comes to financial health.
What is one piece of clothing you wish you could steal from your 16 year old self?
Oh, I had the best denim. I still have really good denim, but I just had any type of denim you could have possibly dreamt of as a sixteen year old girl. I had the Miss Sixty’s, JNCO Jeans, Parasuco. My denim collection as a sixteen year old was crazy. So good.
What inspires your style most?
I like pieces that are going to last a long time, and also envelope this idea that the look I’m wearing can be worn today or twenty years from now. So I think I’m just inspired by classic pieces that can go with anything in my closet.
Your #1 style tip is…
When you’re getting dressed, you must feel your best. And when you dress your best, you perform your best. Wear clothes that make you feel powerful. What works for me, may not work for everyone else, but for my body type, it is classic shapes, it is tonal dressing, it is things that I feel beautiful, well clothed and comfortable in. Just things that are precise to my tall slender frame.
