Bio
OccupationBrand Strategist and Lifestyle Editor
We caught up with Erika Brechtel at her sunny LA residence. The author and illustrator of “The Little Brand Book” is a force to be reckoned with. Not only has she illustrated and written her own book, she is also a creative director, branding strategist and public speaker – all while being a mom. #GOALS! Currently, she is on tour with a Branding Masterclass with stops in NYC, Austin and Miami. We just have to ask: When is a class heading to Toronto?
Q&A
How do you start your day off?
After getting my daughter off to school, I take my dog for a walk and meditate overlooking the ocean. Starting off the day in a calm, positive way, allows me to keep that going all day long.
What’s going on in the background when you are getting ready?
Definitely a Spotify playlist! I make one for every season! I love DJs and the Hotel Costes compilations, but some good 70s mixed in gets me energized.
You never leave home without…
I wish I had a better answer than my phone! But, even if I’m going for a hike or to the beach across the street, I have to have my podcasts, my music and Evernote to jot down any inspiration.
What are your closet essentials?
An AllSaints black leather jacket. Hudson skinny jeans and floral dresses.
What is your biggest fashion regret?
Let’s just say that I’m old enough to have lived through the grunge era.
You always splurge on, and you always save on…
Splurge: Silk, good shoes and DVF wrap dresses. Save: Flirty summer dresses.
What is one piece of clothing you wish you could steal from your 16 year old self?
At first, I shuddered to think of my 16 year old self’s sense of style. I don’t think I learned about fashion until my mid-20s. But, I was a soccer player, so definitely loved my classic Adidas kicks.
What inspires your style most?
The weather. That might sound silly in LA, but when it’s summer, I tend to go more boho. When it’s winter, I tend to go more edgy chic. In between, a floral dress with a black leather jacket does the trick!
Your #1 style tip is…
Find a tailor and a shoe repair. When you invest in your favourite pieces, you’ll love them forever.
