The Future of Makeup

The Future of Makeup

Written by Marisa Anhaltzer

With vaccination rates going in an upwards trend and mask mandates slowly lifting, we’ve come to the realization that after over a year of hiding half of our faces under a mask, we may soon be exposing them to the people around us. Up until now, through mask-mandated life, we’ve become custom to focusing our make-up attention to our eyes and even our nails. Now at this point, we’re not sure where makeup and us even stands.

Thankfully, our resident beauty expert and trained make-up artist, Marisa Anhaltzer, is here to shed some light on the future of makeup.

On Makeup Post Pandemic

It’s time to bust out that fun lip colour that has been buried in your makeup drawer or the bottom of your purse. With mask mandates lifting and covid protocols lessening, it’s time to put your best face forward.  We’ve gone a year hiding the bottom of our faces!  For some people it may be the first time they are seeing the bottom of your face.  Bust out that red lip or that perfect nude to show off that beautiful pout that’s been in hiding for over a year!

On Lip Recommendations

Our lips may need some extra hydration since they’ve been covered by a mask and forgotten about for the past year.  My go to lip balm is Kari Gran Lip Whip.  It comes several colour options as well so it is the perfect lip product to grab for some fun colour and extra hydration.  Another lip and cheek product that I always grab is Ere Perez’s Beetroot Tint.  The tints come in two gorgeous shades a bright pink and a red.  They are stains so they will stay on under your mask and you will ready to go when you take it off!  I like to apply the Beetroot Tint to my lips first.  Then I use the extra stain from my lips and apply with my finger on my cheeks for a pop of colour.  For some hydration I grab my Kari Gran Lip Whip and apply on top of the Ere Perez Beetroot Stain.

On Coverage Recommendations

When it comes to coverage remember to be gentle to your skin.  Many of us experienced mask-ne and/or irritation from wearing masks, so try to go light on the foundation when your skin is readjusting back to wearing makeup daily.  My favourite everyday foundation that covers but also lets my skin breath, is Ere Perez Oat Milk foundation.  For some extra coverage to conceal some dark circles, extra redness or some blemishes my go to concealer is Fitglow Conceal +.  It covers EVERYTHING!!

On All About The Glow Recommendations

Having glowing skin is a trend that will never go away in my book. One of my favourite glow-getting makeup products is Rituel de Fille Rare Light Luminizers. My go to everyday shade is Phosophene for that beautiful natural blush glow.  I love to apply just below the orbital bone around the eye area and then all the way up past the brow.  I always put a touch in the inner corner of the eye, tip of the nose and in my cupids bow around my mouth.  Highlighter is the perfect makeup product to make your skin pop with the mask off or the mask on.

On Eye Recommendations

For over a year now it’s been all about the eyes  and that really hasn’t changed.  Fun bright and pastel colours are in.  Try out fun blue, purple or copper eyeliner.  My favourite, super easy to apply and that stay on eyeliners are Ere Perez Jojoba Eye Pencils in Opal, Agate and Copper.  They make the perfect pop of colour around the eyes and are flattering on everyone. Alone or with eye shadow, these will make your eyes pop. Another easy and fun eye product I love is the Kosas 10-Second Eye shadow.  There are so many beautiful shades to choose from.  My go to shade is Copper Halo.  You can apply just to the lid or go crazy and add it all over the crease too.  Pair the Ere Perez Jojoba Eye Pencil with a Kosas 10-Second Eye Shadow and you have an easy knockout eye look.  Personally I’m always on the hunt for products that can get me looking fabulous with minimal time and effort.

We all may feel a little rusty when applying our makeup but, it’s just like riding a bike.  Lucky for us, if we need a makeup tutorial to relearn how to do that cat eye, fun smokey eye or how to contour our face, there’s a million makeup tutorials available for us to watch.  The future of makeup is bright so don’t be shy and have some fun!
