There is no better time to visit Miami than the week of Art Basel in December. Pool parties, fabulously dressed people and fantastic works of art – What’s not to love? This year, we headed down south and partook in spying Kanye West outside of Soho Beach House, shopping sprees at The Webster, and strolling through the over 270 art galleries at the Miami Convention Centre. In other words, we went to Art Basel.
The Parties
The Parties. It’s almost impossible to attend them all because 1. there are so many and 2. invites can be pretty select. If you do score one (or you’re super fab and score invites to them all), prepare yourself for the wild fashion scene at said parties. We spotted TS-Alum Olivia Ivey Bannock in a stellar Mugler Official getup night one and are still drooling. As Art Basel is the place to see and be seen, don’t be surprised if you are sipping your vodka soda beside the likes of Lenny Kravitz. We know we almost spilled our drinks (on Jaquemus too. It would have been a travesty.).
The Art
It’s easy to get caught up the scene, but what really brings everyone together is the art itself. If you don’t do at least 2 days at the actual Miami Convention Centre, did you really go to Art Basel? Spy classic works by Picasso, Warhol and newer ones by Ed Ruscha and Ai Weiwei. Whether you’re there to buy or just browse, it’s an art lover’s dream.
All Else
The sandy shores of Miami’s SoBe, the shopping on Lincoln Road Mall, the delicious meals on Collins Ave., there is so much else to see and do when in town for Art Basel. Our suggestions? Set up shop by the beach at Soho Beach House. Make sure to shop at Alchemist and The Webster. The former has amazing Proenza pieces on sale, and the latter is the spot for the iconic Instagram image of the store front. And eat at Chotto Matte or The Bazaar by Jose Andres.
