Peter Hu

Bio

Part of our mission here at The Strategy is to feature not only celebrities, tastemakers and fashion insiders, but also the people we see walking down the street with great style. Enter Peter Hu. Peter is currently an intern at Chris Gelinas (the LVMH Prize Finalist) as well as a student at Parsons. He has worked in the past with the likes of The Coveteur, Jason Wu and Proenza Schouler. With hopes of one day owning his own fashion line, Peter has developed impeccable personal style, which we are kind of obsessed with.

Q&A

When you are designing women’s wear, what do you typically draw inspiration from?

I think it is very cliché to say, but it is true, inspiration do come from ever where and anywhere. The world has more beauty that it get credit and I think by opening up your eyes you will be inspired. With that being said, architecture is always a source of inspiration for me. I love the idea that in architecture that you can to create an environment, and there is a functionality perspective to it. Also, another thing that I find odd and fascinating is that sometimes I design in my dreams, and the results are so unlike what I would do in real life and I learn from it.

How long do you take to get dressed in the morning?

Depends on the occasion, but anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes. I don’t think I am an adventurous dresser! I pretty much live my life in a monotonous 5 colors, which is kind of handy because everything just works with everything.

What is your favourite season for clothing and why?

The Next Season. Is! In the summer I am always fantasizing what I am going to wear in the fall, and so forth. But if I had to say one, it would probably be fall, there is just more options I think.

What is the one city that completely reflects your personality?

This is a hard one! I would say Seoul. I mean first of all there is a lot of cities that I love, but I think Seoul is somewhere that I feel like is still not on everyone’s radar. It’s a very design conscious city, and people take a lot of risk there. Also the city as a whole is young, vibrant, and also calm at the same time.

Favorite Movie?

Kill Bill Volume 1. Grace, strength, Taratino. Enough said.

Who is your fashion icon?

Tilda Swinton. The women just works it out. Every. Single. Time.

What is your #1 style tip?

Find a good tailor! Unless you wear Haute Couture 24/7, the cloths you wear are not made for you, and there is always something that is just a bit off. Getting your cloth tailored to your measurements will make you look like you are wearing Haute Couture, when in fact you might be wearing Zara.
