If the fashion industry was school, Fashion Week would be the midterms. It’s time to review all our notes, because with this years S/S shows done and dusted (for the most part), it’s all up to us to take what we’ve learned to heart.
Paris hosts the Fashion Week of all Fashion Weeks. Never one to disappoint, this year impressed us with ultra-femme looks, ultimate bad girl chic, and also a Chanel styled protest.
One thing that seemed to enforced overall was a sense of owning every part of your style personality. Mixed into collections were facets of ladylike and edge, leather and florals, sleek silhouettes and boxy shapes, etc. Hedi Slimane over at Saint Laurent, for example, showed a full on pant suit, but added a super low cut blouse under the blazer. He also produced mini dresses with a 70’s hippie feel, and shorts in more modern patterns. While at Chanel, the vibe was almost business woman-esque. The free flowing pant suits, loose shirts, and day wear appropriate dresses all pointed to the everyday, busy, working woman. Except Chanel’s everyday, busy, working woman has a thing for protests and wants her opinion known loud and clear. Which we are totally on board with.
Summary of lessons learned:
- embrace all aspects of your style personality
- women in suits are a sure fire winner
- everything, even protests, are better with Chanel
- French girls still got it
And last, but not least:
- everyone is still holding on to the retro inspiration
Class dismissed.
