Shenae Grimes is a girl about town in Los Angeles, hometown Toronto, and where ever the wind takes her. She also acts as one half of Two Halves jewelry and clothing store, started with her model and musician hubby Josh Beech. How do you start your day off?

Caffeine, computer, bathing (in that order!)…perks of mainly working from home.

What would your fashion spirit animal be?

Steven Tyler…I told him that one. #lifehighlight

Who is your biggest style influence?

Again, Steven Tyler, Jim Morrison.

What is one piece of clothing you wish you could steal from your 16 year old self?

I never let go of those pieces. I still have my favourite pair of American Eagle jeans from high school. Some call me a clothes-hoarder, but I prefer appreciator of clothing.

You always splurge on and you always save on…

I always splurge on ankle boots. I always save on denim.

What is the most valuable fashion advice you’ve learned from your mom?

Basics are better through the years. Timeless and effortless. Most importantly, comfort comes first. If I’m uncomfortable you’ll see it on my face that I’m not enjoying wearing it. That’s never a good look.

What is your favourite outfit you’ve ever worn?

My wedding dress was pretty spectacular. I’m still thinking of ways to rework it so I can wear it again, but it’s too perfect to touch really. Vera does it best.

Your fashion motto is…

Subtle is sexy. If you can dress like a dude and still look smoking, you’re 10 times hotter than any girl-ly girl in my books!

Your #1 style tip is…

Be yourself. Be bold. Be brave. Don’t conform to styles that aren’t your own. Admire them from a distance and just do you. It took me a long time to own that and not apologize for it and it feels great.
