Photographer and vintage lover, Olivia Locher is a woman who knows what she likes. Much of her work is inspired by film and music of days past, as is her vast collection of vintage items in her wardrobe. At only 24 years of age, Olivia has already had an expansive career. Her photographs have been featured in numerous well-known magazines, she’s taken part in group art exhibitions, and she’s been backstage at every fashion show you’ve ever dreamed of. With a degree in Photography from the School of Visual Arts, Olivia has taken on the art and fashion worlds at full speed. What do you find most inspires your work?
Looking at the work and going to shows of artists who I admire. I am also very inspired by cinema and music.
What is one piece of clothing you wish you could steal from your 16 year old self?
I used to collect t-shirts from all the concerts I went to as a teenager. They were so comfortable! I wish I would have hung on to more of them, my music taste hasn’t changed much since then. I also wish I would have kept more shoes from my Converse collection.
You always splurge on and you always save on…
I always splurge on beauty products, basics, shoes, and bags. I save on clothing items that are trendy
What is one thing you can always be sure to find in your closet?
My closet is full of vintage goodies. I love hunting for and collecting great vintage pieces especially from the 60s and 70s. Right now I’m obsessed with 70s Halston.
What is your favourite outfit you’ve ever worn?
I have this silver Marc Jacobs dress. It’s my favorite because I wore it to so many special occasions throughout my life. For a while it was my go to formal dress, so I have a lot of memories with it.
Your fashion motto is…
To be comfortable, and to look effortless. I love flowy oversized clothes, I am a huge fan of maxi dresses, skirts, and mens inspired shirts. I also have a lot of fun trying things I wouldn’t normally do. I photograph at NYFW, and always get tons of beauty ideas backstage.
Your #1 style tip is…
To be yourself! Once you find your style, go with it and trust your gut.
