Matching combinations of tops and bottoms have been around for longer than anyone remembers. Like the good group of Millennials that a large majority of our generation are, they’ve been given the affectionate abbreviated name “Co-Ords.” As in, Coordinating Pieces.
Genius, right?
Co-Ords aren’t necessarily new, but they’re new to us. Kind of.
Coordinating pieces are old news, but they’re also a bit of an aged style when done incorrectly. If you’re like me, you probably aren’t a huge fan of matching things to each other. However, there is a light at the end of the colour coordinated tunnel. And that light is modern Co-Ords.
The best part about them is that they make pretty good Holiday party outfits for those of us that are a little on the lazy side, but who also know that they want to look like they are super put together. Basically, they take all the work and planning out of deciding what to wear because they go together as a foolproof set. And, really, in the midst of the craziness of the Holidays, the easier the better.
While you can obviously split them up and pair them separately with other pieces in your wardrobe, putting them together should not be dismissed. It can be daunting to wear a full patterned ensemble, but fear not. There are plenty of understated, simple options.
Whether you want to incorporate the Co-Ord into your regular go-to selection, or just want to try it out for a test run, owning at least one pair of coordinating pieces in a colour other than plain black isn’t a bad idea.
When in doubt, mix and match!
