In just a couple short days, 2014 will be no longer as 2015 sweeps in to take this year’s place. While looking forward to the new year is one of the best ways to feel new hope and excitement for things yet to be, reflecting on the past year is always a good way to round things up for perspective.
And what a year it’s been!
Starting off, no one could have guessed that 2014 would be the year of the mega-trend. Crop tops rang in the year with a bang that propelled them to stardom. They may be here to stay, officially. After that came the ever loved midi skirt, the long sleeved mini dress, bold statement shirts (thanks to Alexander Wang!), blanket scarves…and who can forget those overalls? All of these and more had the spotlight in everyone’s wardrobes, encouraging many to take risks that they might not have otherwise gone for. And do we even need to mention that 2014 was basically the 90’s reborn?
From clothing trends to Twitter/Instagram trends, the online presence of the infamous hashtag was unavoidable. “#selfie #nomakeup #nofilter #OOTD #tbt #wcw #mcm #***FLAWLESS.” Speaking of flawless, Beyoncé proved why she’s Beyoncé by releasing not only a surprise album, but a music video for every single song. Kimye happened, of course. So did the beginning of the reign of Kendall Jenner. Controversial from the start, like a true Kardashian, Kendall’s success has not been without criticism.
Also reigning strong and true in 2014 was the ever present Man Bun. A glorious and beautiful creation which struck envy into the hearts of men and women everywhere unable to mimic the ‘do. Much to my dismay, there are a plethora of men who have better skills when it comes to doing their own hair than I do when it comes to doing mine. A begrudged thanks is due to Jared Leto and his hair stylist for sparking the whole idea.
Throughout the year we came together for many events, both happy and sad. 2014 brought people together as we cheered on soccer teams, raised awareness for deserving causes, and remembered legends such as L’Wren Scott, Joan Rivers, and Oscar de la Renta, among others who’s lives provided so much inspiration to so many people.
Going into 2015, we’re sure there will be even more to talk about. New trends on the horizon (we see you, flared jeans), style tips that haven’t been thought of yet, and rising stars of the year to come are all just at our fingertips.
Now, go have a few glasses of Moët and celebrate 2014 in all the craziness that it was.
See you in the new year!
Love,
The Strategy xo
