There are few things in life that I find more exciting than the discovery of a new beauty hack: Why? I’m not so sure. Maybe it has to do with my fascination for small adjustments that deliver major results. Nonetheless, I’ve never been one to underestimate the value of a white liner (instant eye lift) or in-shower moisturizer. Though, being the beauty enthusiast that I am, I’m often under the assumption that beauty knowledge is common sense to the rest of the general public. Turns out not everyone knows about the white liner trick (and what a shame!). 

Hence why we have rounded up some of our best not-so-obvious beauty tips and tricks below. Because even for the highly informed Bobbi Brown’s amongst us, there is always something new to be discovered along the way.



1. What is co-washing and how often should I co-was my hair? Co-washing is the latest craze in hair cleansing, and simply means washing your hair with conditioner and eliminating shampoo altogether. Co-washing delivers major moisture where needed, but it’s because of this that we only recommend it for those with thirsty strands (1-2 times a week). Co-wash finer hair and it will be your worst hairmare.



2. Does nail polish expire? As much as we all have our favourite go-to polishes that we hope to keep forever, nail polish like makeup, does expire. I don’t care if it’s limited edition – if you’ve had it for more than 3 years, it’s time to find a new favourite. 



3. Is there a way of telling my perfect shade of blush? Yes. Either pinch your cheeks or step outside on a brisk chilled day until your cheeks turn rosy. The later is likely to hurt less, but either way will show you the perfect shade of blush for the most natural-looking flush. 



4. How can I get my bobby pins to stay in place? Though we can’t tell you where your bobby pins have ran off to (we’re still trying to find ours), we can help you keep them in place longer. Before styling, spritz some hairspray onto your bobby pins for added hold. A little goes a long way here. 



5. Hold onto your old mascara wands. We’re telling you: they outbeat some of the best brow brushes on the market.



6. How do I choose a signature scent? What men and women often don’t realize is that choosing a ‘signature’ scent is a process. Don’t expect to go out and buy the first fragrance you like. Take the time (at least 3 weeks) to visit and revisit the fragrances you’re fond of because what you like one day, you may not like the next. Also, any quality fragrance will linger hours after application: if you have to reapply every hour, this is not a good sign. 

7. How can I remove a foundation stain? Just when we thought a foundation stain to be as permanent as a bad tattoo, we discovered shaving cream. Apply a small amount before putting it into the wash, and you’ll be wearing your favourite white suit again in no time. 



8. How can you spot a good hair stylist? Of course there are a lot of factors to consider here, but, first and foremost, they should always take note of where you part your hair. If they have to ask, he or she wasn’t paying attention to your hair in the first place.
