The cherry on top of a good outfit, the finishing touch to a makeup look, the pick-me up on a bad day. Lipstick is there for all the ups and downs life throws our way. It is both our best friend and our worst enemy (though we’re still learning to get along), and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
In all it’s wonderful forms, lipstick has carried through the generations almost like an heirloom. Each generation inherits the lipstick legacy of the past, expanding and improving where it sees fit. We’ve gone from thick lip creams to high-shine lacquers to matte crayons and beyond.
Statistically proven to skyrocket in sales during difficult economic times, these little lip bullets really do pick us up when we’re down. Synonymous with icons like Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, and Elizabeth Taylor, lipstick is an icon in itself. Classic and modern icons alike, we have Kate Moss and Rimmel, and more recently Kendall Jenner and Estée Lauder, the blazing path of lip colour continues on just as strong as ever.
For all that lipstick has contributed, it has been awarded a day in it’s honour.
So bust out your favourite lipstick, whether it be bright red or dark purple, and have a Happy Lipstick Day!
