Do you ever wonder how a certain trend comes to be? Or how it resurfaces from seemingly nowhere? Us too.

The silken dresses and tanks currently popping up all over the place are the perfect storm of answers to both of those questions.

Remember the whole “pyjama” dressing thing? Of course you do. Because the idea of wearing a head-to-toe ensemble that looked like a dream to strut around in is not easily forgotten. We’re also going to go ahead and guess that you are at least vaguely aware of the now calm, yet still ongoing, nineties resurgence.

Good. So, what happens when you take PJs, add a little lace, take away some (a lot) of fabric, and throw in a nineties spaghetti strap?

You get a lovechild which we’re taking the liberty to name Nightwear. Or as The Reformation calls it, Outdoor Lingerie.

These slinky numbers are everyone’s to-do list right now, and it’s easy to see why. You’ve got your comfort bases checked, since bras are optional. The clean style appeals to minimalists and nostalgists alike. And since slip dresses and camisoles are so simple, they blend right into any aesthetic.

Personally, we’ll probably wait until snow is a distant memory to bust out our socially acceptable unmentionables. But they sure are one heck of a thing to look forward to while the winter rages on.
