Sitting at my desk on a glum Tuesday morning, scrolling through @BarbieStyle‘s instagram, a thought popped into my mind: “Damn, I wish I wasn’t too old for Barbies.” Followed by: “Am I too old for Barbies?” The answer is (probably) yes, but that doesn’t make me wish I wasn’t too old to play with Barbie and her friends. Especially when Mattel keeps rolling out collaborations with the likes of Christian Louboutin, Charlotte Olympia, and Karl Lagerfeld. At this point, my dream wardrobe may only be coming out in miniature sized clothing.
When I was younger, Barbie Generation Girls were my thing. If I wasn’t playing with the dolls in my room, I was on the computer playing the Generation Girls Gotta Groove PC game, or on the Generation Girls website. A good Christmas stocking to me, was one filled with Barbie clothes and accessories. And, I still feel a pang of sadness when I think about the Posh Spice Barbie shoe I lost behind my cousins couch. It completed the whole outfit and was my favourite shoe in my Barbie collection. This was all before the likes of @BarbieStyle‘s Instagram, before flat lays, and before I even knew how to spell Louboutin. My mind can’t help but wonder how much more fun I could have, playing with Barbie’s is today!
There are now also so many more Barbie friends added to the repertoire. A couple clicks on the Barbie website led me down a rabbit hole of Barbie Fashionista‘s, with so many new hairstyles, skin tones and body types! How do you choose just one? How do I leave the website without buying something?!
At this point, you may be wondering what the point of this story is. I’m here to tell you that it’s about absolutely nothing other than the fact that Barbie has really become awesome and I wish, instead of hammering away at a keyboard I was playing with her. If you really don’t know what I’m talking about or don’t share the same feelings, I urge you to check out @BarbieStyle‘s Instagram. You’ll soon be agreeing with me completely.
