In case you didn’t want the Hadid’s to adopt you enough already, we’d like you to meet Alana. Besides being kin to Bella, Gigi and the rest of the fam, Alana might just be the coolest Hadid yet in that effortless, eccentric way. Adding to her Cool Girl resumé, Alana’s recently launched the denim jacket brand of your dreams, La Detresse. Her experience as both a stylist and personal shopper in Los Angeles has culminated to a line which, like Hadid’s personal style, is at once edgy and of-the-times, and always, always cool.
Q&A
How do you start your day off?
I try to get up as late us possible! I usually like to have matcha – I don’t really drink a lot of coffee. Then, you know, maybe take the make-up off from the night before, and then go through my closet and decide what my mood is.
What’s going on in the background when you are getting ready?
Usually, I’m on my phone responding to an e-mail I should have responded to yesterday. I definitely have music playing or TV. I literally listen to everything from classic to house music.
You never leave home without…
My phone, obviously. But I never leave home without Papaw. It’s a papaya based ointment from Australia that’s for everything from lips to burns. I literally put it in every one of my bags. It’s the best thing ever.
What are your closet essentials?
A good pair of boots, a white sneaker, a denim jacket, vintage Levi’s and a vintage band t-shirt.
What is your biggest fashion regret?
I wore a lot of really random stuff when I was a kid. I wore a lot of those tights with patterns all over them. I don’t know if I regret it; I was pretty out of the box in a very preppy school. I was wearing jeans with dresses over them when people were like “what’s that?”. I did do a lot of those really bad nude heels in college. Those are probably my biggest regret.
You always splurge on, and you always save on…
I always splurge on really timeless jewelry. I always save on denim, actually. Jeans specifically. You can get really awesome vintage jeans and tailor them.
What is one piece of clothing you wish you could steal from your 16 year old self?
I had a lot of really cute crop t-shirts. I miss all those! They’re so in now. I would totally bring back my crops.
What inspires your style the most?
For me, it’s my mood. I don’t think I take inspiration necessarily from other people. I do really love social media and seeing what different influencers and bloggers are doing. Anna Dello Russo is my fashion fairy godmother. But, I think my style is more about how I feel.
