An Ode To The Simple Life

An Ode To The Simple Life

Written by The Strategy

A couple days ago, the programming Gods over at E! announced they would be creating a scripted series based on Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor, creators of Juicy Couture. The show, Juicy Stories, is set to follow their 90’s trajectory from two girls with a dream, to two girls owning a billion dollar company.

Since it’s 2016 collaboration with Vetements and Jamie Mizrahi’s appointment as creative director a few months ago, it seems Juicy is on the rise once again and its got me thinking. Thinking back to when Juicy first really entered my life and an obsession was born. While many credit the likes of Lindsay Lohan and Britany Spears for spearheading the Juicy movement, I give all the credit to one show, and one show only: The Simple Life.

The show that introduced me to my style icon, Nicole Richie, and the wonderful world of velour tracksuits. Sure sartorial choices of the early seasons were questionable at best, but the way Paris and Nicole styled their countless tracksuits left me with awe and inspiration. And changed the way I dressed from 2003 to 2007. Von Dutch trucker hats, Ugg boots and a Juicy tracksuit were my uniform and “That’s hot” and “Loves it” were the only responses I gave.

Now that Juicy Couture is having it’s own sort of rebirth, my fingers are crossed that this will spawn some sort of Simple Life renewal. December 2nd marks the shows 14 year anniversary, and I plan on spending it in a Juicy tracksuit, binging on all 5 seasons, that yes, I own on DVD.
