The Crimson Wave

The Crimson Wave

Periods. It’s time we talk about them.

Let’s just say it like it is: Periods are the worst. They’re messy, you’re bloated, there’s pain, and they totally can ruin your plans. Ugh. But, thanks to some new companies, the way we look at periods doesn’t have to be so bleak. Monthly Gift, Thinx, Easy Period and Dear Kate have changed the way we look at periods, and, as a predominately female office, we love them for it.

Back in our younger years, we simply bought our feminine products at the grocery store, or drug store. Not much thought went into it, other than, what brands our friends/mothers/sisters recommended you use. Then, we’d place them at our most sensitive area and go about our day. Now that science has advanced, it’s time to realize that a lot of those generic products may not be so great for us or our neither region.

Monthly Gift

As their slogan suggests: They’ve got you covered. Period. With Monthly gift, you get your pads, your tampons, your liners and a chocolate delivered to your door every cycle for as low as $10. Score! In 3 simple steps, you get a personally curated box delivered that saves the awkward boyfriend/father/brother run to the store to get your goods. We’ve all been there. In addition to creating awesome boxes, Monthly Gift is made for women, by women, and for every Monthly Gift box that ships, they donate a day’s worth of products to a girl in need through a partnership with Days for Girls.

Thinx

This woman-made brand created the best product: the Period Panty. Ever since reading Leandra Medine’s book, Man Repeller: Seeking Love. Finding Overalls, and learning about her period method of high waisted black undies with full coverage, that’s all we want to wear when we’re on our period. Thankfully Thinx has solved this problem and created such panties that also can hold up to two tampons worth of …um…liquid. If you’re like us, you’ll especially love them when you travel on your period. Nothing is more real than the worry of leakage after siting on a plane for 6 hours.

Easy Period

Easy period is a Canadian (🍁) company born of the desire to have health-conscious feminine hygiene products delivered to our door. All products are 100% certified organic cotton, both inside and out. They don’t use chlorine bleach, latex, paragons, perfumes, SAP, plastics or man made materials. Plus, it all comes in a box (complete with chocolate), delivered to your door, just in time for your monthly. And, if you needed another bonus, “5% of profits are donated to the Zana Africa Foundation, supporting Kenyan girls to stay in school by delivering pads and health education”.

Dear Kate

Now that you’re feminine hygiene needs are covered, it’s time to look at clothes. That right, we’re talking about clothes designed with your period in mind. Dear Kate has designed activewear, dance wear and undies, all with moisture-wicking, stain releasing inner layers, leak resistant outer layers, antimicrobial properties to protect against doors, and linings that hold up to two tampons worth of ‘liquid’.  Plus, they don’t you plastic urethane laminate which means your choice is comfortable and conscious. Their workout leggings have revolutionized our period yoga sessions.
