The Lady Garden

The Lady Garden

Written by The Strategy

There’s diet trends, home trends, and fashion trends. There’s a trend for every season, and your lady garden is not exempt. We sat down with The 10 Spot Queen West’s, aesthetician Marijana Hasanac to discuss what’s popular when it comes to waxing, and whether there is any possible way to make waxing less painful.

What Style is Most Commonly Requested for Vaginal Waxing?

Hair removal has been very much a trend that’s been growing significantly in the past 10 years. Ever since I started performing waxing services in the last 9 years I have seen a broad range of styles with most of my guests waxing choices. From hairless to bikini there are many choices to choose from.

The most popular below the belt wax would be the full Brazilian, which gets rid of the hair all in the front and in the back between the butt cheeks. About 80% of  women I see choose this type of wax over any other one, because they want it all gone, or they want everything below gone with the exception of a landing strip or triangle on the pelvic bone area.

The other 20% go for a thongkini or bikini wax. A thongkini wax is everything on the outside of a thongkini underwear including between the butt cheeks. It’s for the woman who claims she doesn’t want to feel like a pubescent child, but feels sexy enough in her lingerie without anything peering out.

The bikini wax would be just the sides of your underwear line and a bit on top so you feel comfortable enough in your bikini bottoms on the beach.

As you can see there are many styles of waxing for every women. Trends will come and go, but its someone’s preference weather they want to go au natural, or just get rid of it all.

Do You Have Any Tips For Making a Wax Appointment Less Painful?

Can waxing pain be reduced? Of course it can. The first time around will be the most painful, and the more frequently you come, every 4-6 weeks it becomes easier. Here are some simple tips on how to reduce waxing pain:

  • First off avoid coming a week, week and a half before your period. As many of us know we do get PMS symptom’s, some more then others, but our bodies are already sensitive to our friend visiting, do we really need to torture ourselves even more with a wax right before? I don’t think so. I usually tell all my guests to come soon after your friend has left, so that its not as painful and you get to enjoy your waxed area.
  • Avoid any alcohol before any appointment. Alcohol dehydrates the body, making it puffy, which can lead to extra discomfort during the waxing services.
  • If you are someone who is nervous all the time or cant tolerate the pain at all, I recommend to desensitize the area with a numbing cream. I suggest Zensa, it has 5% lidocaine in it to help numb the smaller area being waxed, i.e.; Brazilians, underarms or any face waxing except brows. It’s applied half an hour before your appointment and wiped off before the service. It helps you get through the service without feeling like your skin is being ripped off.
  • Take a pain reliever, (not aspirin, because it thins out the skin) 30-45 minutes before your appointment to help alleviate the pain a little bit.
  • The most important tip to help alleviate pain would be to exfoliate before your service with a body brush or any granular body scrub. It’s so important to do so because it flakes off any dead skin your body has accumulated, making it easier for hair removal. I also recommend it as your post waxing homework to help stimulate proper hair growth as well as prevent any ingrown hairs. I suggest 48 hours after waxing a few times a week, all the way to the next wax.
