Talia Brown

Bio

Talia Brown may just be Toronto’s most fashionable resident. The stylist and personal shopper has been in the industry for over a decade, from working magazine editorials and online projects to TV shows and the TIFF red carpet. There isn’t an area of the Toronto fashion scene that Talia hasn’t touched. We visited her chic Yorkville apartment, that she shares with her new husband, Nelson, to see what inspires her style.

Q&A

How do you start your day off?

With a coffee.

What’s going on in the background when you are getting ready?

That’s so interesting because I’m a quiet person. I rarely have anything going on in the background. My background is normally talking to Nel as I get ready, discussing what we’re both doing that day and it’s typically a quick out – normally I’m going to work, a fashion event or to the gym.

You never leave home without…

I Never leave home without lipgloss. It’s my safety net.

What are your closet essentials?

Dresses. As many dresses as possible. I’m either wearing a onesie or a dress. People often think I’m religious, but it’s actually just my preference.

What is your biggest fashion regret?

My biggest fashion regret would probably be dressing like an Olsen twin for way to long. I let my clothing be oversized and I wore as many bangles and necklaces as possible. I’m a petite person so it totally overwhelmed me. I still idolize them.

You always splurge on, and you always save on…

I always splurge on shoes and bags because you use them all the time. I always save on dresses, because I like to change my dress everyday. Unless it’s a special occasion, I rather be smarter so I may have a few more rather than living with a few less.

What is one piece of clothing you wish you could steal from your 16 year old self?

I think would I would steal is these Calvin Klein overalls that I got rid of because no one was wearing overalls anymore. I should have learned that what goes around, comes around.

What inspires your style most?

I think my feelings and my mood. I will wake up and think “today I’ll wear pink” and I will wear pink from head to toe, even if everybody thinks it’s a little bit kooky. I think it’s kind of my thing. If I want to wear something soft, I’ll wear something soft. If I want to wear floral, I’ll wear floral. I kind of wake up in a mood and dress the mood.

Your #1 style tip is…

Always make sure you’re comfortable because if you’re not comfortable it shows, and confidence is key.
