Christina Grasso

Bio

You may know her by the name Christina Grasso, or by the nickname ‘The Pouf”. Either way, you should know this bad-ass woman. Grasso, a writer and social media maven, was a magazine editor before becoming the Digital Content Manager at Flesh Beauty. In addition to that, she’s also the co-founder of the non-profit peer support network, The Chain. The network is aimed at women in the fashion and entertainment industry struggling with eating disorders. We met Christina at her NYC apartment and found out what it is that inspires her killer style.

Q&A

How do you start your day off?

I start my day off around 6:30, sometimes earlier if I have other work I need to do before I go into the office. I usually shower, have coffee and breakfast, watch the Today Show and leave for work around 8:00 or so. I get in to the office around 9:00.

What’s going on in the background when you are getting ready?

Either the today show or I’ll have on 70s music. Usually Fleetwood Mac or The Pretenders.

You never leave home without…

I’m kind of a Mary Poppins person – I have a ton of shit in my bag at all times. Usually a phone charger, keys, credit card, phone, sunscreen, perfume and a tube of Fleshy Lips.

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN DOUBLE-BREASTED PLEATED LEATHER BLAZER $3,510

What are your closet essentials?

Right now white Nike sneakers, good leather jackets. I only really wear black, so I guess anything black.

What is your biggest fashion regret?

There’s a lot of fashion regrets. This is a regret, but it’s also kind of amazing. I was interning at Oscar De La Renta and I got my name ‘The Pouf’ in college, from when I used to tease my hair up high. I was a PR intern and it was show day and the day before I had just gone to the Carolina Herrera show. It was the season where they did the bouffant headband. I was like, ‘Oh, I love that! I’m going to do that!”. But, the person who keyed that show, was also keying the Oscar show and did basically the same hair. So not only did I get kind of scolded for not being able to fit a headset on top of my hair, the hair person was upset thinking I saw the hair test before the show. It was a crisis.

You always splurge on, and you always save on…

I always splurge on leather and I always save on probably jeans, because I really don’t buy them.

What is one piece of clothing you wish you could steal from your 16 year old self?

I don’t know. I had a pretty amazing homecoming dress. It was a shorter red dress, with a bubble hem and a massive bow on it. I don’t know that I’d wear it now, but it was something that I’d probably steal.

What inspires your style most?

I definitely have a mental moodboard. I’ve always loved the way the Olsen twins dress. Love the Olsen twins, love Catherine Deneuve, Stevie Nicks and Edie Sedgwick.

Your #1 style tip is…

This is a tip that was given to me that I sometimes struggle to follow, but I think it’s a good one. People wake up in the morning, and put something on, and look in the mirror and think, ‘No, I hate this’. I learned recently that every time you change, your self confidence goes down. It’s good for people struggling with negative body image to put something on and just keep it.
