Alison Gordon

Bio

Walking into Alison Gordon’s Toronto home, you instantly become aware that a very cool person resides there. From the collection of Scott Pilgram vs. The World graphic novels to the largest Santal 26 candle we’ve since IRL, stacked on top of an assortment of coffee table books, you just know. We met with Gordon during the days when she was one of the first female CEOs in the male-dominated cannabis industry, as 48North’s CEO and Founder.  At the time, she had just left Rethink Breast Cancer, a charity organization she co-founded. It’s safe to say, she’s broken through some glass ceilings and shows no signs of slowing down.

Q&A

How do you start your day off?

Sometimes, I go to the gym. Sometimes, I just rush out and go to work.

What’s going on in the background when you are getting ready?

My kids are getting ready to go to school and it’s very frantic.

You never leave home without…

My phone. I actually do leave home without it a lot, but then I have to come back and get it.

What are your closet essentials?

Shoes. A major amount of shoes, from running shoes to high heels. Because I do a lot of speaking engagements and take meetings as an executive, I have a lot of blazers. The essentials for me are unique pieces that work with everything else.

What is your biggest fashion regret?

I have so many! A crushed velvet one piece or a perm at 10 years old.

You always splurge on, and you always save on…

I always splurge on shoes, because I believe that quality shoes are more comfortable. I always save on bags. I’m not someone to buy super high-end bags. I think you can find fabulous bags everywhere.

What is one piece of clothing you wish you could steal from your 16 year old self?

I don’t think anything! My fashion and budget has got me to a better place now!

What inspires your style most?

I am in a delicate balance of being a female CEO, and in the cannabis industry. There’s a certain expectation/style pressure to look like a CEO, but at the same time, it’s the cannabis industry. Fashion is a huge part of me and how I express myself creatively, so, I am very particular about my personal style. But, being a CEO, I have to present a certain image that’s expected of me.

You’re Number 1 style tip is…

You’re always rewarded for standing out and having some form of individuality. Find your niche and work it. Try to get outside the box, otherwise it just looks like a sea of sameness.
