Spring/Summer Trends We Can't Wait To Wear

Spring/Summer Trends We Can't Wait To Wear

Written by Sara Fender

As we sit in our homes, bundled up from head-to-toe, swaddled in blankets, sitting in front of the fireplace (or fireplace channel) trying to not freeze, it’s only natural to start dreaming of the warmer days head.

While perusing the Spring/Summer ’22 collections, mentally preparing for what I’m looking forward to wearing when I can once again feel my hands and feet, there was one trend that was overwhelmingly absent from the runways: loungewear!

After several years of the pandemic, being anti-social and working from home, I am more than ready to ditch my sweatpants and sweatshirts and embrace fashion once again.

These are the trends I can’t wait to wear in the coming seasons:

Gingham

Although Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz may be the first image that pops into your mind when you think of this pattern, the gingham pieces that walked down the runway at both Brandon Maxwell and Michael Kors Collection are the pieces we would not normally associate with Kansas. Sporty two-piece crop top sets and silk, slinky spaghetti strap dresses gives gingham the sexy edge it has always deserved.

Bra’s as Shirts

My name is Sara and I love crop tops. That being said, wearing a bra as my shirt fits in perfectly with my current aesthetic and I couldn’t be more excited to rock this trend. I’m taking direction from Jonathan Simkhai, Coach and Fendi, who sent models down the runway alongside fuller pieces with more coverage, such as suits, long-pleated skirts and jackets.

Technicolour

Even the word “colour” makes me shudder and shake in my black Thom Browne combat boots. I’m the person that will wear grey or white and be so proud of myself for wearing colour, so the idea of ‘technicolour’ is daunting. That is until I saw the Tabitha midi dress at TOVE – the bright cobalt blue with a deep v-neck and functional bows that tie at the bodice *sigh*. Proenza Schouler, Oscar de la Renta, and Versace all sent tangerine, lime and other rich technicolour hues down their runways that are sure to bring the brightness and joy we need in our lives after these last few grey and dreary years.

Must-Have Accessories

Every season has is must-have cult accessories, whether it’s the infamously tiny Jacquemus ‘Le Chiquito’ mini bag, the Givenchy crystal embellished glasses or those white Balenciaga square-toed boots. This season is no exception. If you are weary of feeling as if you are ‘trying too hard’ or spending too much on a shirt or skirt that you rarely wear, accessories are the best way to add colour, try out a trend, and add something to your wardrobe that you will regularly use. Bottega Veneta is famous for their unique intrecciato handbags and this year’s ‘Jodie’ mini knotted bag is no exception. With over ten colour ways to choose form, you can buy the bright green one for that added pop of colour, or keep it classic in black or white. Fulfill all your school uniform dreams with Fendi’s embellished leather loafers  or venture into the world of sneakers with the ‘Nama’ embroidered suede and recycled mesh sneakers from Chloé.

The bottom line – I’m beyond ready to get out of my sweats and start feeling like the badass I think I forgot I am. Even if I’m just throwing on my look to go grab coffee or check the mail, nothing is going to stop me from fulfilling all of my Spring/Summer ’22 fashion and style fantasies.
