What Inspired Us This Week: Philo's Return, Fashion Month and Helping Those In Need

What Inspired Us This Week: Philo's Return, Fashion Month and Helping Those In Need

Written by The Strategy

What Inspired Team TS This Week

Inspiration is all around us. It can come from art, coffee table books, people we see on the streets, travel, music – really, anywhere.

As The Strategy hopes to share the inspiration behind the style of our favourite fashion insiders and muses, we’ve decided to share with you the little details in life that have been inspiring us.

What a week this has been! Gray skies, but warming weather has us day dreaming of pastel hues and the spring sartorial season, love and romance are just around the corner with Valentine’s Day coming up, and the catwalks are once again to be filled with beautiful fashion by the industries most creative minds. Narrowing down just five things that inspired us this week is a task in and of itself, but somehow, we managed to pull it off.

As almost every fashion person experienced, on February 9th, Christmas came early with the announcement of Phoebe Philo’s return. We have been waiting and are so happy we don’t have to wait too much longer – well, about 7 months. This coming September, the creative director is returning with a new label that we will be saving all of our pennies for. The label, announced via Phoebe Philo’s new Instagram page, will be backed by LVMH.

While we wait for Philo’s new label to make it’s much anticipated arrival, we’re finishing off our current looks with small details. Right now, we’re love the detail of a classic watch. It refines any outfit, and is a perfect daily accessory. We’ve seen Sienna Miller style it with bangles and bracelets on top, and we’ve seen other style influencers style a timepiece with nothing but rings on their fingers and bare wrists. However you choose to style it, we think it’s a worthy investment.

Speaking of details, one detail we’re finally beginning to embrace, is that of a distressed handbag. Specifically, we’ve been finding inspiration in old photos of Mary-Kate Olsen from the early ’00s, armed with a mint green Balenciaga Lariat bag. Despite the giant red-wine spill that covered the bottom, Olsen trotted that bag all around town. In a 2005 profile in Magazine, Olsen was quoted saying with regards to the infamous bag, “It explains my life.” We Leo the idea of a woman having too much fun with her own life to worry about a little spilt milk (err, wine), and are hoping to reflect the notion in our own lives.

Would we be fashion enthusiasts if we weren’t super excited for February Fashion Month? The New York schedule officially kicked off today, but parties have been thrown all over the city since Wednesday in anticipation. Already, the month has started on a high-note with Lindsay Lohan’s front row return at Christian Siriano’s show and a glamorous turn-out to the Black in Fashion Council’s Season 3 NYFW dinner.

As we all get into fashion festivities, it’s important to also take note of what’s going on in the world outside of fashion.

After a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Syria and Turkey on February 8th, rescue and recovery efforts continue. The earthquake was the most powerful to strike the area in nearly a century and has killed thousands of people, and left more injured and displaced. If you are in a position to help, you can donate to one of the many international organizations helping with the rescue efforts.

Unicef – It’s in Syria prioritizing water, sanitation, hygiene, nutrition and helping unaccompanied children reunite with their families.

Save the Children – Accepting donations on behalf of its Children’s Emergency Fund, they are helping to provide children with food, shelter and warm clothing.

OXFAM – In Turkey working with women’s cooperatives to figure out an immediate and long-term response plan.

Doctors Without Borders – Responding to medical emergencies.

The Syrian American Medical Society – A US-based humanitarian group supplying medical care in Syria.
