Statement Earrings

No, our other earring hasn't fallen off...

H&M's cuff earring

Urban Outfitter's spike cuff

Written by The Strategy

Do you ever have those days where you want to make a statement but not be obvious about it? If you do, we have a solution! Confused fashion follower, meet the single statement earring.

We know you’re familiar with the concept of mis-matched earrings, but this is better. With a statement earring on one side and regular old earring on the other, you have the perfect excuse to buy more earrings. Why? Because you can mix and match EVERY SINGLE ONE. You can add on an ear cuff, you can do magnetic earrings, spikes, diamonds, pearls. Anything and everything in earring form, one on one side, and one on the other.

Stores like H&M and Forever 21 have even started making sets of completely random earrings, or rather, earring, singular. Usually available in a set of ten or so, they allow you have one of each of several different styles. Which is perfect if you don’t necessarily want to commit hardcore cash to something as momentary as costume jewelry. If you want something more substantial, however, you can always go to a Givenchy shark earring or a Lulu Frost face earring.

Though ear cuffs got off to a rough start of chunky, pinchy, and sometimes not so nice, they look much better in the daintier versions that are available these days. Ear cuffs can be found in the traditional bad girl style of spikes and metal, or in more delicate versions of rings and pearls. Which ever route you choose, as long as it is matched with something complimentary on the opposite ear, you are ready to go.

That being said, feel free to take creative control. Do you like the juxtaposition of a pearl earring and shark stud? Go for it. Would you rather wear two more similar styles like say, a diamond stud and a detailed silver piece, than that works too. It is meant to be a further extension of your individuality and personal style.

Think less Madonna circa 1980s cross earring, more Emma Watson Golden Globes 2014. Simple, understated, but still different. The whole idea of a statement earring is meant to be kind of thrown together, and look less thought out than it actually is.

Then again, what isn’t?
