The shredded Lee's

Written by The Strategy

It’s not summer unless you have cutoff shorts. Rain or shine, they are the tried and true staple piece to any summer wardrobe…ever.

We all know the slew of problems that can sometimes be in the way of finding the perfect pair of denim cutoffs, so we took to the brand spanking new location for 69 Vintage (which can now be found at 921 Queen Street West, here in Toronto) to impart upon you what we learned while hunting for the perfect cutoffs.

There are a few unspoken rules that we picked up on at 69 Vintage, one of them being that the more worn in, softer denim is generally more pricey. If you want shorts that are super soft and well-loved, its gonna cost you a bit more than their newer looking counterparts.

There’s quite a few tricks when shopping vintage sizes that can come in handy, too. Let’s face it, the odds of finding vintage anything in the perfect size for you is not the most common thing, but this is when a little creativity and DIY steps in.

If the shorts are too big in the waist, you can roll the top down to shrink the waistband a bit. If you come across a pair that are a little too baggy around the legs, cuff up the bottoms. And of course, cutting any that a tad too long is always an option. Just make sure to plan your scissors’ path, because unfortunately, you are unable to cut them longer again, and unlike your hair, the shorts won’t grow back.

Another one of the many things we learned on our adventure was that the more beat up a pair of cutoffs are, the more we love them. Ones that are too clean looking just don’t give us the same laid back vibe as the super distressed ones.

We also lean toward looser fits. If the denim is too tight, it gives the second-skin look, which we don’t favour. Our idea of the perfect denim cutoffs are the equivalent to chopped boyfriend jeans that have a little bit (or a lot) of rips. Athena, The Strategy team member and model, chose the faded, shredded, pocket-exposed vintage Lee’s. They fit all our personal denim cutoff requirements, clearly.

If you haven’t already, get started on finding the perfect denim cutoffs for yourself by heading to 69 Vintage for endless options. They have styles to suit any idea of perfect cutoffs, and tons of other vintage gems that you will tempted to pick up as well. Be sure to follow them on Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, Instagram, and their website, 69vintage.com, to get the latest on what’s going on in the vintage world.
