Many things seem to be “coming back.” We know you’re tired of hearing about mom jeans, backpacks, and flat-forms…but too bad. Because something we’ve been noticing more and more is ankle bracelets.
They’ve been flying under the radar for quite some time. Ever since the mid-2000’s when they died out, there hasn’t been a resurgence in foot jewelry that’s stuck. Slowly though, on the feet of some of the most stylish people there are, anklets have been making their way back to the top. Some of those stylish people include none other than Mary Kate and Ashley. And you know it’s a thing when the Olsen’s are in on it before everyone else.
Many are doubtful of ankle bracelets, which may be why they faded from our feet for so long. Those doubts are there for a good reason. After the disaster that toe rings were, and the elaborate ways in which ankle bracelets eventually grew, jewelry on your feet was pretty much a no-go. But instead of looking at the past and running in fear, we should learn from the mistakes we made.
For example, anklets got a little out of hand when they got too complicated. Simple designs keep your ankle from looking cluttered, and your legs from looking stumpy. Think of it as an accent piece rather than a statement. Because that’s what ankle bracelets really are. They aren’t like necklaces which are meant to compliment your outfit. Ankle bracelets are free agents. They are whatever you want them to be.
One style that functions as a way to change up a pair of shoes you love (and maybe wear too often), is wearing an ankle bracelet that’s a little more decorative on each foot so that they look like a strap at the top of the shoe. It can take regular black pumps and turn them into party shoes quicker than you can say “Follow us on Twitter and Instagram, and while you’re at it, like our Facebook.”
If you had a rocky past with ankle bracelets, we think it’s time you gave them a second shot. There are such beautiful options that don’t look as overdone as they may have the first time around. Nowadays, they are legitimate jewelry rather than a tacky add on. With some gems and pearls, or charms that make them a little more personal, ankle bracelets are a subtle way to add a little something extra to your everyday outfits.
