Everyone’s least favourite thing? Books becoming movies.
These ones, however, look beyond promising. So grab that blanket scarf and some snacks, because we’ve got some book-turned-movie recommendations for you.
Inherent Vice by Thomas Pynchon, Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson
December 12, 2014
Quick Take: It’s being labeled as “stoner noir,” so essentially there will be lots of guns, lots of crime, and lots of drug scenes. We’re going to go for the Seventies fashion, and stay for what looks like an edge-of-your-seat plot and star studded cast.
Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed, Directed by Nick Hornby
December 5, 2014
Quick Take: At first glance, Wild looks like the main message is “Life sucks sometimes,” with a shot of Reese Witherspoon and a dash of wilderness. But the more you discover about the lead character, the more the plot twists and the story pulls you in.
Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen by Jane Hawking, Directed by James Marsh
November 7, 2014
Quick Take: The Theory of Everything is the love story of Stephen and Jane Hawking. The trailer alone is an emotional experience, so this one is likely not for those who are afraid of weeping in public.
Tidbit of trivia: All three were shown at this years Toronto International Film Festival. Guess we just know how to pick em.
