One of the best things about a new year is the sense of new beginnings. So why not have a new beginning in your mentality toward your clothes? We’ve all been advised by magazine after magazine on certain “rules” when it comes to style and dressing, but we think it’s high time that those rules were disbanded.
Rules that don’t really make sense are the one’s that we don’t agree with. Instead of following old fashioned Do-Not’s that have been handed down for eons, what we all should be doing is deciding for ourselves what works and what doesn’t. And the way to do that? Try things out. Fitting rooms are made for sartorial experimentation.
We’re hoping that no one really follows these poorly informed guidelines in the current day, but just incase there are a few that linger around, we have listed the most pressing ones.
Style Rules You DO NOT Need to Follow:
- Dress according to height, i.e. tall= no heels, short= no long dresses/skirts.
- Do not mix metals; silver and gold are not a pair.
- No white after Labour Day. Ever.
- Remove one accessory before leaving the house.
- One must own classic pieces, regardless of personal style.
- Bags, belts, and shoes should match at all times.
