Anyone with the slightest understanding of the fashion industry surely recognizes the impact and influence of Vogue magazine and the face behind it: that is, Anna Wintour. They would also know that Vogue is more than just ‘another’ magazine; on a larger scale, it’s become a fashion bible for a lot of us women and men, and plays a large part in directing the future of fashion. No matter how big or small, once anything is featured in Vogue, people know and are talking about it. It’s no coincidence that when Anna Wintour crowned Karolina Kurkova the “next supermodel” back in 2011, that her modelling career skyrocketed overnight. That’s the power of Vogue.
And as the world’s most influential fashion magazine, it’s kind of a big deal. But as I sit here, Vogue and coffee in hand, it takes me by surprise just how much this coveted magazine influences my every day nine to five (or nine to nine) life, as I’m sure it does yours too. We may not agree on the return of the Ugg boot, but I’m sure there’s a few things Vogue we can agree on:
We start our mornings with Vogue (but first, coffee).
We carry Vogue with us in our bag of the day for those lengthy dry morning commutes.
Vogue is with us at the office, along with every other issue chronicled by date from the last two years.
We lunch with Vogue and browse it on our coffee breaks.
Two for the book shelf, one for the coffee table.
Vogue is with us on our travels, and makes flight delays a little less painful.
Thanks to the newly launched iPhone editions, Vogue is with us, end of day, heading home.
Vogue is in our mailboxes and inboxes.
It’s with us online when we should be sleeping.
And when it does come time for sleep, we’re in bed with Vogue for some light bedtime reading.
Truth be told, Vogue is always with us in more places that one, and what a lovely companion it is.
