I’ll never forget my first Coach. In 2003, it was my gateway purchase into the life of designer handbags. A white leather motorcycle handbag, similar to one worn by Marisa Cooper of The O.C. But by 2007, carrying around my Coach handbag was not longer “cool” and it, along with the matching wallet and clutch, were pushed to the back of my closet.
But times are once again changing, and the Coach brand is making a huge revamp. We knew last year big changes were coming to Coach, when they announced that they were closing around 70 stores in the U.S., and replacing them with flagship stores in major markets, the first being in New York. Also, Reed Krakoff left the brand and was replaced by Stuart Vevers, formerly of Loewe.
The new brand strategy is focusing on quality over quantity, and upping it’s campaign strategy with big name faces like Liu Wen and Karlie Kloss. Since then, Coach has been working with some major tastemakers like Alison Mosshart, of The Kills, Atlanta De Cadenet and Mary Charteris, and producing some garments that are more model off-duty than their old look of logo embossed sneakers and handbags.
Already, I have taken inspiration from their F/W 2015 show and never leave the house without a silk scarf tied around my neck. My winter boots have gone from heavy duty Sorels to the Coach Urban Hiker boot, and their leopard print peacoat is on my shopping list. It’s only a matter of time before I bring out that old handbag!
