Updated velvet dresses at Chloé (L) and Valentino (R)

We love a good grunge. As seen at Balenciaga (L), Saint Laurent (M) and Givenchy (R)

Renewed pastels at Dolce & Gabbana (L), Giorgio Armani (M) and Prada (R)

If you’ve been feeling a little déjà vu after the most recent fashion weeks, you are not alone. There seemed to be quite a lot of brining certain trends back from the precipice of trend extinction. That is, just when we thought we had said our goodbye’s to some trends, they were reintroduced before they had left. Fashion week has a knack for reminding us of trends almost past, so we’re here to round up a few favourites.

Popping up at Valentino and Chloé were velvet dresses. A few years back, velvet dresses were everywhere. A few had been roaming around since then, but they were relatively on the back burner. However, after a sleek and modern makeover, we have high hopes for the velvet dresses of the F/W season to come.

At Balenciaga, Givenchy, and Saint Laurent, punk themes echoed around in spiked coats, ripped stockings, smudged makeup, and some bold face jewelry. Not to be outdone, the Met Gala of 2013 still sticks around as the most memorable display of punk fashion, though it seems this time around we’re going for the more traditional punk-rock feel. No florals or billowy silhouettes to found here.

Making a surprise return was the candy colours of the much-debated on coats of recent times. Less sugarplum fairy coats, more bright pastels, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, and Giorgio Armani are bringing together different elements. This time around, they’re doing it with structured pieces that can be offset with the sweet colours to make things a little more interesting.

And finally, the infamous gladiator sandal was seen making quite the comeback on various catwalks last year at the Spring/Summer 2015 fashion weeks. This comeback deserves an honourable mention as everyone seems to feeling the same kind of excited buzz about breaking their gladiator sandals out again. Different forms of the gladiator were accomplished by Balmain, Isabel Marant, and Stella McCartney to name a few. We have to wait for some warmer weather to see if gladiators will truly be back stronger than ever, but we have a feeling they will be. It’s hard to pass up a strappy sandal, and gladiators are the ultimate strappy sandal.
