We know that Coachella was so last weekend, but it’s still finding its way into our office door and lunch break conversations. And we’re totally okay with this because A) it somehow makes my leafy kale salad taste better, and B) what’s not to love about days spent gallivanting in a field of butterflies and giant valley caterpillars? Sounds pretty dreamy doesn’t it? Assuming you’re up to speed with your Coachella diet, of course.
That’s right: the #CoachellaDiet exists, and nothing will ruin your Palm Springs experience faster. Looking back, Coachella seemed to be a time of celebration, where thousands of music lovers abroad would get together and celebrate some of the best independent and underground music with good food and even better fashion. But now, it’s become this sort of lifestyle; one that supports evil dieting; that unofficially calls for teeny-tiny denim shorts and stomach barring crop tops, which – unless you have the abs to show for it – can easily bring you into a downward spiral. Not a good look for a bohemian princess might we add. No longer are you required to recite the line up of musical talent, but rather the list of celebrities and what they will be wearing. Note: what they’re wearing is also what you should be wearing. And so it’s no wonder why everyone spends ‘x’ amount of hours (or weeks) gearing up for the festival days of Coachella: with street style cameras everywhere, there is more pressure than ever to get #Fitchella – that is, fit for Coachella for all of you Coachella virgins, like myself.
And really, who am I to talk? How can I be so pessimistic about something that I’ve never experienced firsthand? How can I embrace festival fashion and hate it at the same time? The way I see it is this: at The Strategy, we’re all for leading a healthy lifestyle (we’ve recently hopped on the juicing train!) but when you have girls as young as fifteen years old starving themselves to fit in at such festivals, we can’t help but lose faith.
Coachella we love you, but we’re not about your inspired diet.
