The Hive

Re-decorating our cottage as we speak with all the signs & pillows found at The Hive.

Vanity cases, ping pong paddles, jams...really the store has everything you may need.

If you've been to a cottage, you know a bottle cap opener is a necessity.

Which way to the lake?

We're thinking of using these plates for appetizers, or to hold our rings when we jump off the dock...

Tea service?

There is no way to start this piece, other than by saying that The Hive Honey Harbour is a cottage lover’s dream.

The store is a self-described “shop inspired by Georgian Bay.” It’s quaint location in Honey Harbour is nestled among the trees and has easy boat access. The dock is the perfect setting for their sunrise and sunset yoga sessions.

We heard about the store at the end of last summer, and as it is a seasonal store, we spent our winter months eagerly awaiting it’s re-opening in the summer. We finally had the chance to visit when it first opened this summer, and sat down with owner, Lauren Patchett, to learn more about her store.

TS: What made you start The Hive?

LP: I managed this building for the previous owner for 4 years, before he decided he wanted to sell. It used to be a store with just a bunch of everything, and it needed a total overhaul. I just graduated and had some experience under my belt, so I just thought I wanted to do this.

TS: What inspired you to go with this ‘rustic, but kitschy’  kind of feel to all your products?

LP: The area – it’s cottage country. The stuff needed to be cottage-y. And, I spend a lot of time going downtown (Toronto), wandering through little shops, so I tried to bring a little of that here.

TS: What is Georgian Bay to you?

LP: I grew up here, I spent every summer here – it’s home.

Once you visit , we pretty much guarantee the store will be home to you for the summer months. With a Thrive Foods set up selling coffee, fresh juice, muffins and more, and a laid back vibe, you won’t feel pressured to shop and rush out. As Lauren told us, she wanted the store to feel like a place people could just come and hang out in. Although, we must admit, with the great assortment of products, our wallets were itching to get out.

The store offers a wide selection of everything and anything you may need in your cottage, from guest books and candles, to apothecary and bottle openers.

If you are ever in the area, make this shop a definite priority. It is officially our Top Pick for the Georgian Bay area.
