The army jacket. It is a summer mainstay, a festival go-to, and an It-Girl’s apparent low key best friend.
The army jacket has appeared year after year (after year) each summer for good reason. A legend this great has purpose behind it. It has meaning.
And the meaning that backs the ubiquitous camo green jacket is that of actual practicality. There is a sea of wonderful, beautiful works of sartorial art out in the world, and we buy into most of the trends that float our way. Practical or not. More often than not those unpractical trends lead to snickers and confusion from the less fashionably-concerned.
Army jackets, however? Everyone understands them. They are one of the most useful and practical garments to ever be, with sneakers as a close second. These are the trends that mothers approve of- jackets and sturdy footwear.
But mom-approval aside, utility jackets are the perfect addition to almost every casual summer outfit. They are the cherry on top of the sundae that is denim cutoffs and a white tee. Utility jackets are the tough offset to a girly sun dress, the complimentary over-layer of jeans and button down, and the rain protection to save us from impromptu summer showers when we forget umbrellas. It’s the kind of jacket that you bring on adventures, the kind that accumulates memories. And looks good while doing so.
If you do not already own an army/utility/military/camo jacket, it is highly recommended that you invest in one. A good quality, faded greenish brown jacket that will last through the ages.
You will not regret it.
