Makeup is great. It provides a creative outlet, a designated time-out from the day, a new mood when we’re feeling a little less than fabulous. Makeup is, however, is an art that requires talent which not everyone possesses.
I am one of those people.
I can apply makeup just fine, that’s not my problem. My problem comes in the form of a lack of vision. I am not an artist that can freestyle a beautiful masterpiece; I need planning and structure. Beauty looks are as researched and thought out as my next big purchase or bedroom redesign. I’m talking weeks of planning here.
On my makeup journey thus far, I’ve come to rely on YouTube like I never would have imagined possible. I’ve learned an abundance about colour correcting, contouring, eyebrows, and false lashes from makeup artists who so generously offer up real professional advice and tips. These makeup artists have become my own imaginary “glam squad” that readies me for whatever I’m trying to accomplish. It doesn’t matter that they live in different countries, they’re on my laptop screen whenever I need help.
For those who are like me, there are certain looks which become go-to’s. Today, I bring you a selection of videos to help solve all (some) of your makeup troubles.
– Dark lips and glowing skin by Tanya Burr
– Alexa Chung’s signature makeup look by Lisa Eldridge (because obviously)
– Oscars 2015 Julianne Moore look, courtesy of Pixiwoo
– Charlotte Tilbury’s Iconic Dolce Vita
And there you have it. A solid list of go-to makeup looks when you are in need of a little inspiration/guidance.
From my pretend glam squad, to yours.
You’re welcome.
