Food for your Face

Our five favourite foods for your face

Apple Cider Vinegar

Coffe Grounds

Oatmeal

Honey

Brown Sugar

Written by The Strategy

It’s getting to be that time of year where your skin has barely recovered from sun damage and now has to face the harsh cold weather. By this time, your beauty cabinet is overflowing with products, so the thought of hitting up Duane Reade again isn’t all that appealing. So, for this in-between time of year, we’re caring for our skin with products you most likely already own, except these products aren’t coming from your beauty cabinet. No, these products are coming from your kitchen.

First on our list is apple cider vinegar. The stuff smells, but is an awesome facial cleanser and toner. It helps prevent acne and pimple breakouts when used as a cleanser, and has brightening and tightening benefits as a toner. Just remember to dilute ACV with water.

This next one is definitely something you’ve already heard about – coffee grounds. You can buy pre-packed versions like Frank Body or simply wait for your daily cup of joe to brew. Allow the grounds to cool and massage on your face and body. The grounds exfoliate the skin, while the caffeine can help reduce the appearance of cellulite and puffy eyes.

While eating oatmeal is a great way to start off your morning, your skin is actually craving it! You can add it to a warm bath to help lock in moisture, use it as a face mask, cleanser, or even in addition to your facial soap. Fun fact: Oatmeal on your skin is a beauty routine that dates back to 2000BC!

Next up, we have  honey. You can mix honey and oatmeal together to create a moisturizing all natural facial cleanser, mix it with brown sugar for a lip scrub, or slathered on your skin by itself (for 30min before rinsing off in warm water). It’s full of antioxidants, making it good for wrinkles and aging skin prevention, as well as antibacterial, which helps fight and prevent acne.

Last on our list is brown sugar. Mix a little brown sugar and olive oil for a body scrub that will leave your skin super soft and hydrated. As mentioned before, mixing it with honey will create the most delicious lip scrub, that you can’t stop yourself from licking off, but leaves your lips pillowy and soft.

So there you have it! Our five favourite foods for you skin. Insert cheesy line here about leaving you with some “food for thought”.
